All generic extensions and certain country-code ones support a security lock feature whose function is to impede unauthorized transfers of existing domain names. Lots of registry organizations that manage ccTLDs that do not support this feature are in the process of adopting it for greater safety and for the convenience of the domain registrants. A domain can be transferred only if it is unlocked and only a registrant who has been given access to the account with the current domain registrar can accomplish that. New domains are registered with the lock feature enabled intentionally, so as to prevent any unsolicited transfer attempts. The lock feature is one of the security measures for regulating the transfer of active domain names between domain registrars that have been introduced over the years.

Registrar Lock in Cloud Hosting

Locking and unlocking a domain name registered through us is amazingly easy. This can be achieved through the Hepsia Control Panel, which is included with our cloud plans, and will take exactly two mouse clicks. All your domains will be displayed in alphabetical order in the Registered Domains section of the Control Panel and next to those whose extensions support the domain lock option, you will see a padlock-like symbol. Click on it once and you will notice the current status of the domain name. Click once again and you’ll change its status. The update will propagate instantly without the need for you or for us to do anything else for the status to be updated on WHOIS lookup sites, so you can continue with the transfer procedure straight away.

Registrar Lock in Semi-dedicated Servers

In case you want to transfer a domain from our company to another domain name registrar and you have a semi-dedicated server account, you’ll be able to get the domain name ready with only a couple of mouse clicks. All your domain registrations will be listed in a separate section of the Hepsia Control Panel – the same tool via which you’ll administer your hosting account. If a particular generic or country-code TLD supports the registrar lock feature, you will notice a padlock icon. You can see whether the domain is locked or not by clicking on that icon once and you can alter the status by clicking again. That’s all it takes and there will be nothing else that you or we will have to do, so you can continue with the transfer right away. The change will propagate instantaneously, so you won’t need to wait for the status to be changed on WHOIS lookup websites.
